JEWETT DESIGN STUDIOS

CALIFORNIA COLLEGE OF THE ARTS
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

A converted bus maintenance facility houses a 16,000 square foot interior open studio area at the California College of the Arts campus. The studios’ design is based on the thoughtful configuration of simple white planes. Tall walls running along the shorter width of the building allow painters to work on large canvases and shorter walls spanning the full length of the building serve as display surfaces while preserving the light and views from existing industrial windows. Large pivoting walls along the building’s dramatic central gallery connect studios to the common space and form enclaves for public critiques.
